Bristol Historical Society: Open House

Bristol Historical Society: Open House & Tribute to Teacher Ms. Loretta Teevan
June 11 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

This Saturday the Historical Society will open its doors and provide tours of its regular exhibits and special exhibits featuring the history of Bristol’s schools. In addition, the Society will be honoring the late Loretta Teevan, a Bristol educator for 43 years, who died this January. Come and share your stories and memories with fellow classmates.

It was Loretta’s habit to have her English, Latin, and Mythology students write personal retrospective essays every year, with a promise that they would be returned at some point. At some of the many class reunions at which she was a guest, Loretta would return some of these papers, but many have not yet found their way back to the original authors. Courtesy of her relatives, Kelly Monahan-DiNoia and Ellie Wilson will try to fulfill Loretta’s promise by making available many of those hundreds of papers. Come and see if we have yours!

In the spirit of Bristol’s school history, you can view the restored Minerva statue before it makes its way to its original home in the Memorial Boulevard Intra-district Arts Magnet school for the fall.

The Memorial Military Museum and Bristol Sports Hall of Fame, who share the building with the Historical Society will also be open on June 11th.

June 20 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Ready to cook up some fun? PUMC invites children prek-5th grade to get on a roll with God as a Food Truck Party rolls into their neighborhood for a tasty time!

This VBS invites children to pray as Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:11; “Give us this day our daily bread.” These words serve as a reminder that everything we have comes from God — and that it’s by turning to God in prayer that all of our daily needs are met.

This program is all week, each evening June 20th-24th beginning each evening at 5:45pm-7:45pm. Contact Christa for more information (917)386-8599.

Nick’s EPIC Pinewood Derby

Nick’s EPIC Pinewood Derby
June 25 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Pack 425 Cub Scout, Gloria Dei Church and Sons of American Legion Post 209 coming together to join forces to put on an EPIC event for a little boy. Nichola Parenti was recently diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, his treatments have started and we are organizing this event to help support the Parent family. Nick’s favorite event in scouts is the Pinewood Derby! We will have 3 tracks running traditional races, you can bring your old or new pinewood cars, bring a monster jam car from the toy box (but rubber wheels on a wooden track might not go well) buy a kit at a local craft store, find a car at a tag sale or buy a kit from us in the ticket options. We have basic precut cars or the standard blocks of wood you can cut out your own shape! We want everyone to have an EPIC time! We are still organizing but trying to get music and food trucks to the event and over all it should be a great day! Lastly we will have a FULL THROTTLE race, we will have a 100' track go down the ski slope of page park, this is a no rules everything goes race at the end. Have you ever wanted to see what a 1lb pinewood derby car could do? Let’s see what creations you can come up with! Grab a car and come out for a day of EPIC fun!

For more information, email: epicrace4nick@gmail.com. A Venmo account has been set up for payments: @EpicRace4Nick
