Bristol Health cutting 60 staff positions

Kurt Barwis, president and CEO of Bristol Health, announced layoffs Tuesday at the hospital.

BRISTOL — Citing financial challenges, Bristol Health announced Tuesday it will eliminate 60 staff positions immediately. However, Kurt Barwis, president and CEO of Bristol Health, promises that the safety and quality of services provided will not be impacted.

Barwis said that the financial environment for health care institutions continues to be a challenge due to a “multitude of factors.” Bristol Health is eliminating the positions, with the aim of reducing costs by $6.1 million. The eliminated positions include 21 filled positions, 21 vacant positions, and others accomplished through staffing management.
