Bristol Eastern earns first win of the season in 13-6 rout of East Hartford on Friday

The Bristol Eastern baseball team exploded for 13 runs on 14 hits in breaking into the win column against East Hartford on Friday.

The Lancers led by an 8-1 margin after the first three innings, powered by RBI singles from Owen Myers and Preston Guarda in the first, and Myers again, along with Mason Harris and Caleb Molinsky in the third.

East Hartford scored a run in the fourth off Eastern starter Molinsky, and then got themselves back in the game with a five run rally of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

Jonny Montgomery came on with two outs in the fifth to attempt to extinguish the East Hartford rally, but gave up a bases-clearing triple to the Hornets’ Jaiden Rodriguez, but Rodriguez tried to score on an overthrow to third and was thrown out at the plate on an alert back-up by Montgomery.

With the score now much closer at 9-6, the Lancers put the game away with four more runs in the top of the seventh. Everything happened after two were out.

Gabe White started the outburst with a walk and a steal of second. Noah Molinsky then drove in White with a solid single to left, and Ben D’Amato kept it going with an RBI laser to right. Owen Myers singled and Preston Guarda hit a booming double to drive in the final two runs.

Montgomery shut East Hartford down over the final two innings and the Lancers came home with their first win of the year.

Eastern was paced by Guarda and Myers at the plate. Myers logged three singles and two RBI’s on the afternoon, while Guarda had three hits, including two doubles, along with three RBI”s.

Noah Molinsky, D’Amato and Shenck all tallied two hits for the Lancers, and Harris had two RBI’s with his single in the third.

Eastern is now 1-5 on the year, and travels to Middletown’s Palmer Field to face the Blue Dragons in a 6:00 start on Monday.
